Director of Archaeology - Ibrahima Thiaw

Ibrahima Thiaw (Ph.D., Rice University, Houston Texas) is an Associate Professor of Archaeology at the Institut Fondamental d’Afrique Noire (IFAN), University Cheikh Anta Diop of Dakar, Senegal. He has research interests in the long-term impact of the trans-Saharan and Atlantic trade, craft production, culture contact, archaeological study of identity and cultural heritage management. He has conducted research in the Middle and upper Senegal River, and since 2001, his work has focused mainly on Gorée Island and Coastal Senegambia.
